The goal of the RTS programme is objective decision making in the implementation of exercise through the continual assessment of client/patient needs, goals, individual neurological ability, structural idiosyncrasies, to determine prescribed motor patterns, force application, rate and form of progression, and ultimately, risk and benefit.

THE SECRET TO UNDERSTANDING RESISTANCE TRAINING Personal training is certainly an art but it is also a science. When you understand the structure of joints, the action of muscles, and the physics of force, you can design programmes that produce the results your clients demand” Once the trainer gains a strong grasp of the information, the level of confidence and ability to create and analyse increases dramatically. This can only be accomplished by taking the trainer back to the basics, but in a way in which most trainers have never been exposed. The basic sciences that most trainers have been exposed to, offer little in the way of guidance when it comes to the true understanding of human movement. Anatomy is taught in mostly identification and basic actions of muscles, but in no way does that prepare the trainer for the vast amount of variations and possibilities in determining optimal choices as well as the countless variations that can be created. Many other sciences are brushed over or completely ignored when it comes to building the trainers foundations and knowledge base. This information is then used to build upon the following critical areas of a trainer’s knowledge, so they are better prepared for the onslaught of information that is being offered to them. Learn to:
  • Recognise and debunk resistance training myths
  • Be able to sift through fitness claims on Social Media
  • Balance the risks and benefits of specific exercise
  • Identify ineffective exercises
  • Maximise training results and muscle growth
  • Objectively analysse  and choose equipment that produces optimal results or know how to modify what you have to fit the needs and goals of the client
  • Understand the Functional vs. Traditional training debate. How functional is “functional” training? Whatdoes the science say?
  •  Design progressions that add challenge, not merely complexity
The main goal of R.T.S is to create true “exercise professionals” We define an exercise professional as any practitioner who employs exercise as a modality regardless of the demographic with whom he/she works. Personal trainers, group exercise instructors, physical therapists, chiropractors, performance specialists, strength coaches, skill coaches, etc. All employ exercise along a continuum of client/patient abilities, tolerances and goals. Yet there are specific areas and levels of knowledge that are not taught in any of the related degrees or certifications. WHY EXERCISE MECHANICS? R.T.S. focuses and excels at the progressive presentation of exercise mechanics, an application of engineering and physics to the understanding, implementation and delivery of exercise Despite the plethora of information offered in our industry, mechanics is the only concrete science comprising exercise currently offered. This is not to diminish those who truly contribute to the growth of the industry by offering valuable information, but the vast majority of information is passed on without regard to the true science that could objectively determine its validity and is instead, based on myths and biases that create followers, not thinkers. We teach students to think. We do not promote, recommend, or degrade any specific exercise or philosophies. We analyse them all objectively and teach the student to do the same. We teach simply “what is”…what we can truly begin to say about a movement based on mechanics, because, without an understanding of mechanics, you are simply choreographing moves.

PRACTICAL COMPONENT All Students are required to complete the Practical component which will take place in September 2022.
