How is this course delivered? (Study mode & duration)
We have structured three different programmes through which this course is delivered, enabling you to choose a mode that suits your time requirements, learning preferences and career goals. This makes it ideal for career changers, school leavers, working professionals, those who want to launch their careers without any delays and those who would like to take their careers all the way!
Full Time Weekday programme
The full time weekday programme is the full, value-added package; a more intensive option in which you can diversify your qualification through additional specialisation electives. You can choose between a sport track and a complete fitness track to increase your scope of practice and employment prospects.
The sport track prepares you to work in sports-specific roles and environments, with electives in:
Sports Conditioning: Learn power, strength, speed, agility and coordination techniques to improve athletic performance
Sports Massage: Learn general and sport-specific massage techniques with a focus on massage contraindications, stretching principles and trigger point therapy
Sports Nutrition: Gain adequate knowledge of sports nutrition to provide clients with basic advice to enhance general health and athletic performance
The complete fitness track provides the opportunity for you to broaden your range of instruction and provide more comprehensive offerings in a fitness environment. The electives include:
Pilates ABCs & Intermediate: Gain a solid foundation of Pilates principles to instruct at a beginner to intermediate level within a gym or studio environment
Boot Camp Instructor: Draw upon knowledge from multiple disciplines (kettlebells, group fitness, functional training and traditional boot camp training) to create and deliver dynamic boot camp classes
Weight Management Coach: Learn the basics of weight loss to safely and effectively advise clients on healthy weight management practices
This option is ideal for students who wish to take their careers all the way! It provides more contact time with classes held every Tuesday and Thursday over a 10 month period. These classes take on a practical approach in a gym environment so that students learn in a relevant and effective way.
Saturday morning programme
This option does not include the additional specialisation electives, catering to more time-sensitive students through a mixture of interactive class-time and online learning. Classes are held every alternate Saturday over a six month period, while students have a year in which to complete the coursework and assignments via our online learning platform (OLP).
This is a well-balanced option for working professionals who would like to reap the advantages of more traditional learning, but cannot attend classes on a daily basis.
Blended-learning does not include the additional specialisation electives. It is a flexible study mode that combines online home-study with quarterly workshops. While you can complete the course entirely (and comfortably) online, these optional workshops serve as revision sessions in which you can ask questions, revise key concepts and receive hands-on guidance from our master trainers.
Although majority of this programme is completed online, you will never be alone in your studies. You will receive constant communication and on-going feedback from your very own online tutor and steadfast support from our dedicated online-support team.

The main function of CATHSSETA is to facilitate skills development to contribute to the economic growth of the country.
