My parents were always very active and we were involved as a family in athletics over the years. When I started at University and I was training for the Athletics team, I started doing Olympic Weight Lifting to improve my strength and fell in love with weight training. I got my SA colours in Powerlifting and since then it all exploded into following a career in fitness.

How has your career evolved over the years?
I’d have to say that over the years my career has evolved 10 fold. I started off doing residential personal training, i.e. going to train people at their houses and actually one of my clients showed me an article in a magazine about working overseas as trainer. A turning point for me was the travelling, working on the ships as a Fitness Director and then getting a contract to work in Dubai at Bodyworx Total Fitness for a year, which was in 2013. When I came back here it was a natural transition for me to start my own company (NDP) which includes Personal Training, along with developing the education side of fitness, which I hope to achieve together with HFPA in hosting seminars, workshops and doing more public speaking.
What have been some of your career highlights?
Working with people from all over the world, while traveling to over 32 countries on the beautiful Crystal Symphony. Also learning how to manage and run a gym, presenting seminars and expanding my services to group exercise, assisted stretching and posture analysis.
What are your future goals?
I would like to start expanding my business to the online market and building my brand by creating a positive and trusted reputation. Also to just continue teaching people the skills to better their health and lives, which has always been my passion.
Has anyone been a key inspiration in your journey?
A gentleman on the ship by the name of Brian Metcalf was a key inspiration to me. He is a Biokineticist and mentored me on the ship.
What is your life/exercise/career philosophy?
Be consistent – it’s those small daily activities that compound in bringing about final results. Also, don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone.
